The international project Didactic Bricks for teachers implementing Education for Sustainable Development develops ‘didactic bricks’ to help you easily create and deliver lessons and interdisciplinary projects focused on sustainable development. These bricks contain creative, action-oriented activities designed to engage students, age 10-15, in solving real-world sustainability challenges. By participating, students will develop social-entrepreneurial skills and gain active hope for a future that allows them - as well as others and the more-than-human-world - to flourish.
Many teachers face challenges in integrating sustainability into our lessons, often due to limited preparation time and/or increased administrative duties. As a result, we often rely on pre-made teaching methods from publishers, which fail to inspire creativity and make it difficult to respond to current affairs and students' lived experiences. Our aim is to co-create flexible, easy-to-use learning activities, which can be combined into - Spotify like - thematic playlists/lesson plans.
These bricks:
- Can be adjusted to fit your needs, curriculum, and teaching style.
- Help you deliver lessons that go beyond traditional subjects by focusing on real-world challenges, making learning more integrated and interdisciplinary.
- Allow you to collaborate with other teachers, either in person or digitally, to co-create and share teaching materials.
The didactic bricks can be used for single lessons or extended interdisciplinary projects (indoors and outdoors), and can be easily incorporated into existing subjects like science, environmental education, world orientation (geography, history, civics), language learning and mathematics.
